The course will address the history of 21st century design starting from the Italian experience of Radical, intended as a conceptual opening to the progressive intensification of the relationships between design and art. This is to understand some specificities of the current era, in particular those relating to narrative codes and the “stories told” by design.

Learning Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the students with the critical tools necessary for understanding the most significant phenomena related to contemporary design. The lessons will be monographic and will follow a chronological order and will deal with designers, works, events or themes that are particularly significant. In addition to historical knowledge, however, the course aims to provide tools aimed at understanding the meanings of design through the "stories" overwritten in it. This reading intends to start a greater awareness in the student that the ability to "build" stories is an integral part of the design processes.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of English, knowledge of the history of design and Art History in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Teaching Methods
The course takes place with monographic lessons and the analysis of particularly significant case studies. These are dealt with in a chronological order, and allow to highlight the most significant moments of contemporary design. At the end of each lesson, the student must complete a written test (multiple choice tests, and / or short summaries, and / or concept maps) on the topic explained in class. The course will also highlight the practical experience of students with research aimed at presenting significant case histories in the classroom. This type of work is done in the awareness that storytelling itself is also a process of discovery.

Type of Assessment
The exam consists of a multiple-choice written test and is considered passed with an overall assessment of 18/30 (this test is worth 75% of the final grade).
After passing the exam, the student can accept the grade and record it on the same day; or you can refuse it and take the exam again on another date; or ask to take an oral exam on the same program. In the latter case, the grade already achieved in the written exam may be raised or lowered, depending on the student's preparation.
The tests in itinere delivered at the end of each lesson will be assessed as a certificate of attendance and are worth 25% of the final grade.
