The course addresses the main concepts related to organizational design and the management of human resources in the tourism industry. Specific focus will be given to the main theories in organization studies, organizational design basics, organizational structures, and organizational culture. In addition, students will be provided with an overview of the main issues in managing Human Resources in the tourist industry.

Obiettivi Formativi
The course aims to develop knowledge of the main theories in organization studies and develop competencies for organizational analysis and design in the tourism industry. Students will also acquire core knowledge of human resource management design and competencies in managing a process in the human resource management domain, specifically focusing on the peculiarities of the tourism sector.

The assessment of the course consists of a written final exam.
The final exam comprises:
- 20 close-ended questions
- 3 open questions (open questions or exercises),
The score for the final exam:
- close-ended questions: correct answer 0,5 points; wrong answer, skipped or left blank answer no penalty.
- open-ended questions: 7 points each at the maximum.
Duration of the final exam: 1 hour and 30 minutes.
STUDENTS ACTIVE PARTICIPATION TO CLASS’S ACTIVITIES
In the case of students’ participation in class activities (attending class, working on group or individual assignments, participation in class exercises, etc.), an increase in the final examination grade might be allowed (between 0 and 3 points), details on the specific activities entitled to this bonus will be communicated at the beginning of class and posted on Moodle.
In this case, the final mark will be the sum of the scores obtained from the written final exam and the scores obtained from the activities performed in class.
Programma del corso
The course program covers two main areas. The first part is devoted to the 'Organization Design in the Tourism Industry', the concepts of organizational dimensions of the tourist enterprise will be discussed, defining the peculiarities of these types of service companies describing the evolution of the theories underlying the discipline of the organization studies. The course will focus on aspects such structure design, managing environmental changes and organizational culture. In the second part of the course, dedicated 'The People Management in the Tourism Industry', the course will introduce the peculiarities of human resource management in the tourist sector by addressing human resource management and development activities, also referring to the specific features of international companies and event organizations.
