The course outlines the history of the mask and proposes the history of its mythopoiesis in modern and contemporary times through critical bibliography and the analysis of some performances in prose and music, as well as the study of the forms of its persistence in cinema, in dance, in animation. The lessons will focus on some interpreters and some capital preparations in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The course aims to develop the following skills in the student:
understand the history of the show
identify the main cultural components in the elaboration of the contemporary imagination
compare the spectacular phenomena
identify and recognize the types of production.

The course aims to stimulate in the student attitude towards the history of theatrical forms, critical sense, intellectual flexibility, research skills, attention to the comparative study of theatrical phenomena.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the history of Italian and European theatre.
Teaching Methods
Direct lessons, given with the projection of multimedia documents, and accompanied, in particular, by theatrical videos, used as analysis tools of shows-events.
Further information
Students are invited to actively participate in the activities of the University Theatre Company 'Binario di Scambio'.
Type of Assessment
Final oral exam to verify the acquisition of knowledge and methods of the discipline in relation to the contents presented during the lessons and the critical assimilation of the bibliography. Awarding of a final grade, taking into account: 1) the level of knowledge acquired; 2) the possession of the exam bibliography; 3) the originality of the critical reworking of the contents presented during the lessons; 4) the active participation in the lessons.
