The course, which is held as a seminar, will consider a specific area of EU law, identified each year on the basis of most important legislative or judicial developments.

Bibliographic references pertaining to the area considered in the seminar are collected by the students. Each participant will also be given indication on relevant texts and materials to be used in the writing of the paper on the topic assigned.

The course aims at improving student's skill in EU law. Research activity in a specific domain of EU law permits to refresh the knowledge acquired in the basic course, and to deepen such knowledge with regard to a specific topic.

A good knowledge of the general part of EU law is required in order to attend the course. The students that have passed the examination of EU Law before the reform of the Treaty of Lisbon should update their knowledge. It is further required the ability to read tests and materials in English.

The course is held as a research seminar. Some lectures will be given on major issues concerning the chosen area; each participant is required to make research and present a paper on a specific topic concerning such area.

The students willing to attend the course are invited to enroll through Moodle during the first week of the course.

The learning is assessed on the basis of the active participation in the seminar, the bibliographic research accomplished, the discussion in class on the topic assigned to each participant, the paper presented on the same topic.

The course involves some lectures, and the research activity accomplished by the participants. The area of research is chosen from year to year taking into account the most significant judicial and legislative developments. In previous years the seminar has been devoted, for instance, to the principle of non discrimination on the basis of nationality, to the free movement of persons, to the freedom to provide media services, the application of EU antitrust legislation in the legal systems of the Member States, the promotion of human rights in the external relations of the Union, the application of the Charter of fundamental rights in national legal systems.
