Introduction to Contemporary history. Themes and issues.
The course analyzes the main topics of the Contemporary age, from the Dual Revolution (late XVIII century) to the present day

The bibliography will be illustrated at he beginning of the course.

KNOWLEDGE OBJECTIVES:
- to learn the basic knowledge on Contemporary history
SKILL OBJECTIVES:
- knowledge of the main methods in the study of Contemporary history
- knowledge of the bibliographic tools in the study of Contemporary history
BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES:
- to encorauge critical reflection on the origin of some key-aspects of Contemporary age

Basic knowledge of Contemporary history (secondary school level)

Frontal lessons, with didactic supports (slides, movies etc.), available on Course e-learning platform (Moodle)

Mandatory inscription (at the beginning of the course) and mandatory frequence (for almost 24 hours). On Moodle available information and sources (slides etc).

The exam consists in an written text, with questions of different types, about the topic covered in class and in the books chosen by the students. The Erasmus students can choose oral examination. The exam
The exam aims to verify:
- the understanding of the main processes of the Contemporary history, and its periodization
- the understanding of the main categories proposed to describe the mentioned phenomena
- the knowledge of the main events and phenomena, from the Dual Revolution of the late 1700s to the end of the 20th century
- the skill to establish connections between different events and processes

The student who fails 4 consecutive texts, will have to repeat the course

Introduction to Contemporary history. The course analyses the most relevant issues of the Contemporary age, from the Dual Revolution (late XVIII century) to the present day. Given the complexity and the scale of the phenomena, we will analyze some topics:
the various chronologies of Contemporary age;
world and global history;
key concepts: revolution; liberalism; socialism; social classes; nationalism and imperialism; WW1; fascism, communism, totalitarianism; WWII; the Cold war; Decolonization; Italian Republic
