Learning Objectives
The course will teach basic skills for the analysis of Medieval and Renaissance scripts, manuscript books and documents. Students will be taught principles of transcriptions, analysis and description of documentary and literary manuscript sources.
Prerequisites
Very good knowledge of written and spoken Italian. Knowledge of Medieval and Renaissance history and cultural history. Basic knowledge of Latin.
Teaching Methods
36 hours of theorethical and practical lessons. Students need to download from Moodle all the teaching materials (facsimiles, transcriptions, bibliography etc.). Attendance is recommended, as well as active participation of students.

1. Introduction to the study of written sources

5. Assessment
5.1. Written test. Before the oral exam, students are required to take a written test (transcription of a short manuscript text and some questions of Codicology and Diplomatics).
5.2. Oral exam: 1) reading test of some plates assigned during the course; 2) assessment of parts 1-4 of the programme: bibliography, teaching materials, notes. Students are also required to frame and discuss the plates examined during the course.
