Mastery of the stemmatic principles; knowledge of the techniques of philological analysis of Latin texts. Ability to interpret Latin texts in their cultural context and to carry out metrical analysis

Very good knowledge of the Latin language and prosody.
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons, exercises, and seminars
Type of Assessment
Oral exam. Through translation and commentary of the texts included in the syllabus will be tested the philological skills. Metrical analysis of verse passages dealt with in the lessons will be moreover requested.
Course program
Title:
Recensio, examinatio, emendatio.
Controversial and philologically significant passages from Phaedrus' Fables, Petronius' Satyricon, Alcestis Barcinonensis, as well as from the poems of Paulinus Nolanus and from other Latin literary works, will be text-critically and exegetically analysed. Handouts will be provided by the teacher. Seneca's epist. 104 and Ausonius' Ludus Septem sapientum will be read and commented on in toto.
