During the course, the 6th and 7th Books of Nonnus of Panopolis' Dionysiaca will be translated and commented. The course will be mainly focused on the role of the universal deluge and of Dionysios' advent in the poem's structure.

Learning Objectives
The course intends to give to the students:
- an introduction to the culture of the Late Antiquity
- information on the essential bibliography on the Late Antique literature
- skills in order to comment and analyse a text of Greek poetry
- basic knowledge about Neoplatonic philosophy.
Prerequisites
Average knowledge of Greek language and of the history of Imperial Greek literature.
Teaching Methods
The lessons are frontal.

Attendance to the course is mandatory for the 2/3 of the total lessons. Only part-time students, through previous agreement, can ask for an alternative program.
Type of Assessment
The exam will be only oral, with three main questions:
1) history of the Late Antique culture; 2) translation and comment of the texts read during the course; 3) history of the Imperial Greek literature.

The course consists of an introduction on Nonnus of Panopolis and on the Late Antique epic poetry. Translation and comment of the Books 6th and 7th of the Dionysiaca.
