Learning Objectives
Aim of the course is to enable students to to identify trends in arguments, read and interpret fundamental texts of German literature and culture using printed or on-line-texts; and to provide essential knowledge of themes concerning German literature and philosophy and the cultural background. Discussion will also be encouraged during the course.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for the admission to the cource are those estabilished by the Corso di Laurea
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons; close-reading, interpretive tools in order to place the texts in their historical context.
Further information
Students should have a good knowledge of the german language. Attendance is required for at least 2/3rds of the course. No specific exams for non-attending students, except for part-time students (who must contact the professor in order to agree upon a specific program).
Type of Assessment
Testing will be by oral examination in italian, which will be held at the end of the course.
Course program
How Goethe’s theme of exercise of the eye in his Italian Journey and of the clear, clarifyng eye inspired and influenced Nietzsche, Rilke and Borchardt. Metaphorical landscapes or cities as Venice, Genoa or Florence, the role of music and of the arts, the relations between poetic vision and aesthetic-philosophical thinking in different periods of German literature, reading across genres of poetry, diaries, aphorisms and essays.
