The Portuguese theatre in the modern age: Gil Vicente, Francisco Manuel de Melo, Almeida Garrett. The course aims to present the Portuguese theatre between 16th and 19th centuries with its peculiar aspects inside an Iberian context. The study will be focalized on Gil Vicente (the father of the Portuguese theatre in the 16th century), Francisco Manuel de Melo (the most important Portuguese playwright in the 17th century) and Almeida Garrett (the renower of the Portuguese theatre in Romanticism).
