Except for part-time students, attendance is required for at least 2/3rds of the course. The same obligation applies to the attendance of "lettorato" conducted by Dr. Kobayashi.
Type of Assessment
Two papers and oral exam. The student is required to give in two papers, both together or separately in two sessions, which will be discussed during the oral exam.
The student must show:
- in-depth knowledge of the history of Japanese modern literature and its main authors.
- ability to develop autonomously the ideas on the themes and/or authors chosen, drawing on available sources also in Japanese.
- ability to read, interpret and critically analyze the literary productions of modern Japan.
- ability to propose translations of excerpts from literary works, using acquired language skills.
Course program
The course makes reading, comments and translations of passages from the works written by Japanese modern authors. A particular attention will be paid to the language and the personal literary style of each author.
During lessons the students will be invited to propose their interpretations and translations.
