Learning Objectives
The course provides students basic knowledge of Akkadian grammar and epigraphy of Old Babylonian period and political situation in Hammurabi Babylon.
The student will learn how the system of cuneiform writing works.
Prerequisites
none.
The contemporary or preliminary frequency of the course of "History of the Ancient Near East" is recommended.
Teaching Methods
Lectures.
The students will present scientific articles in-depth in relation to the topics discussed during the course.
Collective discussion of articles will be held during the course.

Type of Assessment
Oral exam.
The student must demonstrate knowledge of cuneiform writing and the main grammatical rules.
The presentations held during the course will be part of the final evaluation.
Course program
"Hammurabi Law Code". The course includes the study of Old Babylonian language with readings in cuneiform, translation and grammar analysis of paragraphs of the "Law Code" of Hammurabi king of Babylon and some
letters of Mari (modern Tell Hariri, Syria).
