Theories, principles, methodologies and tools to define, plan, develop, manage and control reliable architectural projects and effective development strategies.
Particular attention is given to the analysis and understanding of time, financial, production and organizational restrictions that constrain and guide the process of constructing building works, with specific reference to the issue of digitization and the Building Information Modeling methodology.

The course accordingly with the recent Italian regulation for digitalization is finalized to acquire the basic knowledge in taking part within the building process by different roles architects may have to design, build, operate, maintain, revamp and dismiss a public project. The lessons show the basic legislative, procedural, technical and industrial elements to realize a complex public project lean management with particular regard to Aviation terminals. To such aim the students are introduced to basic concepts of parametric design in the BIM environment as it is the technological scenario to enable traditional PBBD (Performance Based Building Design) process transformation.

The Project Design Management Course is aimed at providing technical skills to be applied with efficiency, effectiveness and reliability in the context of professional practice. Specifically the objective is to educate students so they acquire the knowledge necessary to consciously deal with the production system and its constituent elements and to understand the concepts, strategies, tools and techniques for developing a comprehensive project and a strategic/managerial approach to the process of streamlining activities through the use of specific electronic processes with particular reference to advanced modeling models.

Disciplinary glossary, basic knowledge of the buildings architectural technology (buildings systems and spaces). English proficiency level.

The student must have acquired knowledge of:
- The methods of using construction materials, construction techniques and performance requirements methodology;
- The general principles of setting up a project in terms of the functional and morphological organization;
- The graphic representation of the architectural design;
- Parameters regarding urban planning and construction indexes;
- Knowledge of the physical environment

The course includes lectures and bibliographic learning integrated with design activities and practical applications that the students can carry out choosing between:
- independent study, for non-attending students
- supervised study, for attending students
Independent study. The teaching method includes theoretical study activities for the acquisition of basic knowledge through the proposed text books, selected lectures, IT tools and practical design activities agreed with the professor, to be carried out independently with periodic individual reviews.
Supervised study relates to theoretical study activities to learn the basic knowledge through educational communications which will develop the topics covered by the course. It will be up to the student to develop the necessary insights from the texts indicated in the bibliography.
The educational objectives in the ‘supervised study’ mode are also achieved through participation in practical learning activities (exercises) and assessments made during the course.

Two assessment methods are planned in relation to the type of learning chosen by the student.
Independent study Learning is assessed through both an oral test and a discussion/evaluation of the technical and contractual documentation produced for the project.
Supervised study Learning is assessed through both oral interviews on the knowledge gained from the educational communications and an assessment of the exercises carried out during the semester. The oral interviews on the knowledge gained from the educational communications are two conducted through planned intermediate assessments.

Project Design Management – 2017/2018
Contents
Theories, principles, methodologies and tools to define, plan, develop, manage and control reliable architectural projects and effective development strategies.
Particular attention is given to the analysis and understanding of time, financial, production and organizational restrictions that constrain and guide the process of constructing building works, with specific reference to the issue of digitization and the Building Information Modeling methodology.
Educational objectives
The Project Design Management Course is aimed at providing technical skills to be applied with efficiency, effectiveness and reliability in the context of professional practice. Specifically the objective is to educate students so they acquire the knowledge necessary to consciously deal with the production system and its constituent elements and to understand the concepts, strategies, tools and techniques for developing a comprehensive project and a strategic/managerial approach to the process of streamlining activities through the use of specific electronic processes with particular reference to advanced modeling models.
Topics
In order to achieve the objectives stated the course aims to develop the following topics:
• Digitization in the construction sector;
• Role of process operators and implications for design and production in the construction industry;
• Project Information Model (PIM) and technical information to support design decisions and actions in the implementation process;
• Attributes, Common Data Environment and Industry Foundation Class (IFC ) formats
• Building process models;
• Construction Process and its organization.
The topics addressed will be focused on with particular attention to the regulatory and procedural context in the Public Works sector and to the methodologies and tools such as those relating to design in the BIM environment to be applied in professional practice.

Teaching methods
The course includes lectures and bibliographic learning integrated with design activities and practical applications that the students can carry out choosing between:
- independent study, for non-attending students
- supervised study, for attending students
Independent study. The teaching method includes theoretical study activities for the acquisition of basic knowledge through the proposed text books, selected lectures, IT tools and practical design activities agreed with the professor, to be carried out independently with periodic individual reviews.
Supervised study relates to theoretical study activities to learn the basic knowledge through educational communications which will develop the topics covered by the course. It will be up to the student to develop the necessary insights from the texts indicated in the bibliography.
The educational objectives in the ‘supervised study’ mode are also achieved through participation in practical learning activities (exercises) and assessments made during the course.
Examination method
Two assessment methods are planned in relation to the type of learning chosen by the student.
Independent study Learning is assessed through both an oral test and a discussion/evaluation of the technical and contractual documentation produced for the project.
Supervised study Learning is assessed through both oral interviews on the knowledge gained from the educational communications and an assessment of the exercises carried out during the semester. The oral interviews on the knowledge gained from the educational communications are two conducted through planned intermediate assessments.
Requirements
The student must have acquired knowledge of:
- The methods of using construction materials, construction techniques and performance requirements methodology;
- The general principles of setting up a project in terms of the functional and morphological organization;
- The graphic representation of the architectural design;
- Parameters regarding urban planning and construction indexes;
- Knowledge of the physical environment
Organizational method
Enrolment – ONLY those who meet the conditions will be accepted on the course, assigned by the secretarial office on the basis of the first letter of their surname. Students wishing to attend are required to confirm their enrolment by filling in the appropriate “form” from the professor.
