Elements of Museology and Museography. Museology: the origins and purpose. History of collecting and museums. Activities and objectives of museums: preservation and enrichment of collections, cataloguing, teaching, educational activities and research. The contemporary museum. The exhibitions. The "science centers". Ecomuseums. The identity of the new museum. Museology and museum design: the need for synthesis. The spaces of the museum: space for the exhibition, for teaching, for storage. The display of collections: the criteria and itineraries. Museographical innovation in historicized contexts: the case study of the Section of Anthropology and Ethnology of the Museum of Natural History, University of Florence.
